Young opera singers from around the country gather at Miami Beach’s Colony Theatre on April 8, 2017, to take part in the Young Patronesses of the Opera/Florida Grand Opera 29th National Voice Competition. Ten finalists, chosen from a total of 25 to 30 semifinalists, perform from the standard opera repertoire with piano accompaniment in a concert in front of an audience and a panel of illustrious judges to earn at least $40,000.00 in prize monies to further their careers in the field of grand opera. There is a top prize of $10,000, and the audience selects the winner of the Audience Favorite Award.
Judging the competition’s semifinal and final rounds are four opera professionals who share an interest in the development of young professional opera singers: Michael Heaston, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program; Gregory Henkel, Director of Artistic Administration at San Francisco Opera; Philip Pierce, Director of Artistic Administration at Florida Grand Opera; and Diana Soviero, Soprano, and Artistic Director of Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artist Program.
The Finals Concert, which comprises the final stage of the competition, takes place on Saturday, April 8, at 2:00 PM at the Colony Theater, 1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, Florida.
Tickets may be purchased through the Colony Theatre box office at (800) 211-1414 or online at https://www.colonymb.org. There are special rates for students and for groups.
